Worn Tool Handles Are Dangerous. Replacing Them Costs More Than the Wrap.

Tool handles wear smooth with use. Hammers, screwdrivers, wrenches, and pliers all develop slick spots where grip pressure is concentrated. A slipping hammer is a safety hazard. A rotating screwdriver is wasted effort. Worn handles on power tools increase vibration transmission as the dampening material compresses.

Replacement handles cost $5-20 each and require fitting. Heat-shrink tubing works but permanently modifies the handle diameter and feel. Adhesive grip tape leaves residue that attracts dirt and oil, making the handle worse over time. Rubberized dip coatings are permanent and add bulk.

Every hammer in my framing kit has Guard-Tex on the handle. Better grip, less vibration, and when the wrap wears I just rewrap in 60 seconds.

Universal Fit

Any handle. Any tool. Zero residue.

Guard-Tex wraps hammers, wrenches, screwdrivers, pliers, and power tools. Cotton provides grip on every handle material. Strips clean from all surfaces.

Handle Wraps by Tool Type

Hammer and striking tool handles. Wrap hammer handles for restored grip and vibration dampening. Cotton absorbs impact shock between handle and hand. Particularly effective on worn wooden handles that have lost their grip texture.

Screwdriver and turning tool handles. Wrap screwdriver handles for increased diameter and torque transmission. A larger-diameter grip allows more torque with less grip force — reducing hand fatigue during repetitive driving.

Wrench and plier handles. Build custom grip zones on wrench handles. Add cushion to plier handles for long-use comfort. Cotton over bare metal provides immediate grip improvement.

Power tool grips. Overwrap worn power tool grips for restored texture and vibration dampening. Cotton between hand and tool housing reduces vibration transmission during extended use.

Field and emergency repair. Keep a roll in your toolbox for instant handle repair. Wrap a cracked handle, build up a loose grip, or add cushion to a bare-metal tool — 60 seconds, no tools needed.

How to Wrap Your Tool Handles

1

Clean the Handle

Wipe down the handle surface. Remove oil, grease, and debris. Guard-Tex bonds to itself, not the handle — but a clean surface ensures a smooth wrap.

Pro tip: For oily shop tools, a quick wipe with a rag is sufficient. No solvents needed.
2

Wrap the Grip Zone

Spiral-wrap the handle where your hand contacts it. Overlap each pass slightly. Two layers for grip restoration, three for significant diameter increase.

Pro tip: For hammers, extend the wrap higher than your normal grip — this allows choking up on finish work without losing grip.
3

Build Custom Profiles

Add extra layers where your fingers naturally grip. Build a palm swell on large tools. Create a flared end on tools that might slip from the hand.

Pro tip: Different tools need different profiles. Hammers benefit from a flared end. Screwdrivers benefit from a palm swell.
4

Work and Assess

The wrap is ready immediately. Use the tool and evaluate. Add grip area, build thickness, or strip and start over — zero commitment.

Pro tip: Mark your frequently-used tools with different colored Guard-Tex for quick identification on a shared job site.
