Palette Knife Work

Impasto painting with palette knives is physical. Spreading thick paint, building texture, working for hours against the resistance of the medium. Carmen's hands do heavy labor disguised as art.

"People think painting is gentle. Palette knife work is closer to plastering. You're pushing, spreading, scraping — all day long."

The Physical Toll

Carmen's grip hand develops calluses and fatigue. Her other hand, holding the palette, cramps from the constant load. Both need protection and recovery.

"I tape my knife-gripping fingers for long sessions. The pressure points need cushioning, or I can't maintain control by hour six."

Large Scale Work

Carmen works large — canvases measured in feet, not inches. The scale demands physical endurance. Her hand care routine is as important as her color mixing.
