The Original Self-Adhering Tape

In 1935, General Bandages introduced a revolutionary tape that stuck to itself, not to skin. Industrial workers finally had hand protection that wouldn't cause pain on removal.

The secret was simple: 100% cotton tape treated with a special latex compound that bonds to itself but never to skin, hair, or equipment. No adhesive. No residue. No pain.

Two Names, One Product

The same tape was sold under two names: Gauztex in drugstores, Guard-Tex through industrial distributors. Same formula, same factory, different channels.

By the 1950s, it had reached the hands of a president. Dwight D. Eisenhower used it to build up the grips on his golf clubs. That tape is now displayed at the World Golf Hall of Fame.

Vintage Gauztex packaging

Preserved in History

The original Gauztex packaging sits in the Smithsonian's National Museum of American History — recognized as part of America's industrial heritage.

When FX's Fargo needed period-accurate 1950s medical supplies for Season 4, they featured Gauztex. Some things you can't fake.

Modern fitness

One Name Now

Today, we've retired the Gauztex name. Everything is Guard-Tex — the same formula that worked for Eisenhower, now showing up in places he never imagined.

Esports facilities. CrossFit boxes. Fulfillment warehouses. Surgical instrument assembly. Professional kitchens. Rock climbing gyms.

The applications keep expanding. The tape stays the same.
