The Eisenhower Connection

President Dwight D. Eisenhower was an avid golfer who played over 800 rounds during his presidency. He discovered Guard-Tex and used it to wrap his golf club grips, adding cushioning and reducing friction during his frequent games.

"Guard-Tex provided the comfort Eisenhower needed for long days on the course — cushioning without residue, protection without damage to his equipment."

The same tape that protected a president's hands can protect yours. Guard-Tex works two ways for golfers: wrap it on your hands to prevent blisters, or wrap it on your clubs for added grip cushioning.

Two Ways to Use Guard-Tex for Golf

Wrap Your Hands

Tape friction-prone areas: the inside of your lead hand thumb, base of fingers, and palm heel. Prevents blisters during long practice sessions and rounds.

Wrap Your Grips

Add a layer of Guard-Tex over club grips for extra cushioning. Reduces vibration and friction. Replace between rounds without damaging the underlying grip.

Why Guard-Tex for Golf

  • No residue: Adhesive tape leaves sticky buildup on club grips. Guard-Tex bonds only to itself — your equipment stays clean.
  • Painless removal: If you develop a blister mid-round, you can tape over it and remove the tape later without tearing the wound.
  • Adjustable: Add or remove layers as needed. Grip too thin? Add tape. Blister forming? Add cushioning. Easy to customize.
  • Works in heat: Adhesive tape loosens in hot weather. Guard-Tex cohesive bond stays secure regardless of temperature.

Where Golfers Get Blisters

Lead hand (left for right-handed golfers): The inside of the thumb takes friction from every swing. The base of the index and middle fingers grip the club tightly. The heel of the palm absorbs vibration. These are your primary tape targets.

Trail hand: Less common, but the fingers can blister from tight grip pressure. Tape if you notice hot spots developing.

Between fingers: Some golfers develop blisters between fingers from interlock or overlap grips. Tape these areas or adjust grip style.

Golf Blister Tape FAQ

How do you prevent golf blisters?

Tape friction-prone areas before playing. Common spots include the inside of the lead hand thumb, the base of fingers, and the palm heel. Wearing a glove helps, but tape adds protection where gloves wear thin or do not cover.

What tape do golfers use for blisters?

Golfers use athletic tape or self-adhering tape like Guard-Tex. Self-adhering tape is preferred by many because it leaves no residue on clubs or hands, removes painlessly over existing blisters, and can be wrapped on club grips for extra cushioning.

Why did Eisenhower use Guard-Tex?

President Eisenhower wrapped Guard-Tex on his golf club grips to reduce friction and improve comfort during his frequent rounds. The tape provided cushioning without adhesive residue, and could be replaced between rounds without damaging the underlying grips.

Can you tape golf club grips?

Yes. Wrapping self-adhering tape like Guard-Tex over grips adds cushioning and friction protection. The tape leaves no residue when removed, so you can re-wrap grips as often as needed without damaging them.
