Grip — Archery
Guard-Tex wraps your bow riser for custom grip thickness, taper, and feel — then strips off with zero residue on wood, aluminum, or carbon. Self-adhering cotton that bonds to itself, not to your bow.
Every archer's hand is different. Stock riser grips are molded for an average palm that doesn't exist. Too thin for large hands, too bulky for small hands, wrong taper for your grip style. The result is inconsistent hand position shot to shot — and in archery, a millimeter of grip shift moves your arrow inches at 70 meters.
Aftermarket grips cost $30-80 and commit you to one shape. Custom-molded grips take weeks. Adhesive grip tape leaves gummy residue that damages riser finish and kills resale value. And every permanent modification means you can't undo it when your grip preferences evolve.
I've been through four aftermarket grips at $50 each trying to find the right one. Guard-Tex lets me build and rebuild for pennies until the grip is perfect. Should have started here.— Recurve Archer, Target Competition
Guard-Tex builds custom riser grip in minutes. Layer cotton overwrap for thickness. Shape taper profiles for your palm. Add padding at pressure points. When you want to change it — strip it off. Zero adhesive ever touched your riser. No residue on wood, aluminum, carbon, or painted finishes.
Zero Residue
Guard-Tex bonds only to itself. It never contacts your riser with adhesive. Strip the wrap and the surface underneath is exactly as it was — no residue, no marks, no finish damage.
Riser grip build-up. Wrap layers of Guard-Tex over the riser grip zone to increase diameter. Each layer adds consistent thickness. Build until the riser fills your palm naturally, then shoot. Adjust next session if needed — no commitment.
Palm shelf and pressure point padding. Add targeted layers at the thumb shelf or heel pad where your bow hand contacts the riser. Custom padding exactly where your hand needs it — not where a factory mold guessed you'd need it.
Taper profiles. Build thicker at the bottom and thinner at the top — or the reverse. Create the exact taper profile that positions your hand correctly for your shooting style.
Wet and cold weather grip. Cotton gauze provides consistent grip texture in rain and cold where bare riser materials get slippery. Add a fresh wrap for outdoor tournaments in adverse conditions.

Wipe down the grip zone with a dry cloth. Guard-Tex bonds to itself — the riser surface just needs to be clean of dirt and oil.
Pro tip: No prep chemicals needed. Guard-Tex doesn't use adhesive, so there's nothing to bond to the riser surface.Wrap a single layer of Guard-Tex over the grip zone. Spiral wrap with slight overlap for consistent coverage. This is your foundation.
Pro tip: Start at the bottom of the grip zone and wrap upward. Keep tension consistent but don't stretch the tape — it's non-stretch woven cotton.Layer additional passes where you want more diameter — palm shelf, thumb pad, finger grooves. Each layer adds approximately 1mm of thickness.
Pro tip: Shoot 6-12 arrows between layers. You'll feel immediately whether you need more or less build-up.The grip is ready instantly — no curing, no drying. Shoot your session. After, decide whether to keep, modify, or strip the build.
Pro tip: Many archers keep a grip build for weeks, then strip and rebuild when they want to experiment with different profiles.
