How to Use Guard-Tex

Self-adhering tape that sticks to itself, not your skin. Here's how to get the most from it.

Basic Application

Guard-Tex is designed to be intuitive. The tape sticks to itself through a cohesive bond — no adhesive touches your skin. This means easy application, repositioning, and removal.

Step 1

Prepare Your Skin

Start with clean, dry hands. The tape works best on skin free of lotions, oils, or moisture. If you've just washed, wait a moment for your hands to fully dry.

Step 2

Anchor the Tape

Unroll a few inches of tape and press the end against your skin where you want to start. Hold it in place with your other hand while you begin wrapping.

Step 3

Wrap with Slight Tension

Wrap the tape around your finger, hand, or other area with slight tension. Not tight enough to restrict blood flow, but snug enough to stay in place. Each layer should overlap the previous one by about half.

Step 4

Tear and Smooth

When you've covered the area, tear the tape (it tears easily by hand) and smooth down the end. The tape will stick to itself and stay put.

Pro Tip

For finger wraps, start below the area you want to protect and wrap upward toward your fingertip. This prevents the tape from rolling down during use.

Specific Applications

Fingertip Protection

Start at the base of the finger, wrap around the finger in a spiral pattern moving toward the tip, then wrap back down. This creates multiple layers at the fingertip where protection is most needed.

Knuckle Protection

Wrap in a figure-eight pattern around the knuckle, crossing over the joint. This allows the tape to flex with your finger movement while staying in place.

Palm Protection

For palm coverage, wrap around the hand, including over the area you want to protect. Secure by wrapping around the wrist once or twice.

Blister Coverage

For existing blisters, apply a small piece of tape directly over the blister, then wrap around to secure. The tape provides a protective layer without adhesive irritation.

Tips for Best Results

Removal

To remove, simply unwrap the tape in the opposite direction from how you applied it. The tape releases easily without pulling on skin or leaving residue. If the tape has become very compressed, you can cut it with scissors and peel it away.

For Fragile Skin

Guard-Tex is ideal for elderly or fragile skin because removal never involves pulling adhesive from skin. Simply unwrap gently, and the tape releases without causing the skin tears that adhesive products can create.
