Taping for golf requires balance: enough protection to prevent blisters, but not so much bulk that you lose feel. The key is thin, targeted application on vulnerable areas only.
Where to Tape
Most golfers blister on the lead hand (left hand for right-handed players). Common spots include the base of the fingers where they meet the palm, the pad below the pinky, the thumb web, and the heel of the hand.
Identify your personal hot spots by examining your hands after play. Red, irritated areas that aren't yet blistered are candidates for preventive taping.
Application Technique
Start with clean, dry hands. Anchor the tape on one side of the area you're protecting, wrap with light tension (not stretched tight), and overlap each pass by half. For fingers, spiral wrap from base toward tip. Finish by pressing the final layer firmly to secure.
A single layer of Guard-Tex provides significant protection. Multiple thick layers add bulk that changes feel. Start minimal and add only if needed.
When to Tape
Tape before you develop blisters, not after. If you know a range session or multi-round day is coming, tape preventively. It's much easier to prevent blisters than to play through them.
